Brave students at Thurston Community College have had their long locks cut off for charity - raising more than £800 for The Little Princess Trust.

Around 30 students and five teachers took part in the event, having their hair cut in front of the entire school during break time today.

So far the event has raised £806 for The Little Princess Trust - a charity which provides real hair wigs for children who have lost their hair through cancer.

All the hair cut on the day will also be donated to the trust to be made into wigs.

Sarah Webdale, English teacher and organiser of the event, said: “I’m thrilled with the overwhelming response form staff, students and parents, and so proud of those joining me in getting our hair cut.

“It’s such a simple think we’re doing, but it’s lovely to know it will make such a difference to others.”

Headteacher Helen Wilson thanked the generosity of the stylists - from John Michaels and Bliss Studio in Bury and The Hair Studio in Thurston - who kindly gave their time for free.

She said: “We decided we wanted to celebrate the bravery of students by doing it in front of the whole school.

“This typifies the attitude of our students and staff to do everything they can to support this worthwhile charity.

“They are very generous and today proves that.”
